“Every man is more than just himself; he also represents the unique, the very special and always significant and remarkable point at which the world’s phenomena intersect, only once in this way, and never again. That is why every man’s story is important, eternal, sacred; that is why every man, as long as he lives and fulfills the will of nature, is wondrous, and worthy of consideration. In each individual the spirit has become flesh, in each man the creation suffers, within each one a redeemer is nailed to the cross.”

—Hermann Hesse, Demian

Reference is vital for the validation of each one’s thoughts and emotions. I think therefore I am, proposition by René Descartes which suggests one’s existence is confirmed through self doubt, in my interpretation has to take one step further towards You think therefore I am, for our doubts are confirmed or discarded according to the peer’s receptivity. But it ought to be reckoned that one’s experience should never be measured in the same metric system as the other’s, for everyone is given distinct environment that provides varying resources in different conditions to develop the first interactive skills. Yet we habitually draw conclusions about ourselves in reference to others and hurt our own attitude in making progress.

The first references we are given to validate our earliest expressions and exertions of control mold our subconscious, entities imposed by the consequence of nature’s reactions. Some have the fortune of being born into affectionate sphere of influence that will nurture and educate how to function within each one’s given environment. Others sprout spontaneously and unceremoniously under inadequate decision making units, not acquiring the necessary recognition to form the skills to respond appropriately. Through our first references’ approval and rejection, we create the initial internal system of what is right and wrong within the permitted accessible perimeters, a system that differs greatly from one individual to another.

Environment is every physical, chemical and biological interface of a given space affected and governed by rules of coexistence, englobing all that our nervous system can sense and command to intercept dynamically. We collect our information through smell, taste, vision, auditory, temperature, and touch, combination of which are presented in infinite variables during the constant transformation of energy between residences and places of service of heterogeneous characters in the midst of divergent natural, cultural, political and socioeconomic aspects of the given geographical coordinates.

Understanding that none of the lives ever make the same trajectory though intersecting with one another, acknowledging that everyone explores and adapts to situations I am never exposed to, affirming that I have learned to overcome obstacles and appreciated pains of my own, I try to admit my references as objectively as possible without feeling diminished or aggrandized by the outcome of their routes of action.
